Weird Celeb Couplings Part 1

After I learned about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ divorce (she’s free!), I thought about whom Tom Cruise has dated. Then I realized he dated Penelope Cruz (totally forgot about that fling post-Nicole Kidman) and Sofia Vergara. Yes, Sofia Vergara! Isn’t that nuts? I’m glad those two were able to escape Scientology. Anyways, it got me thinking about weird celeb hookups that people forget about. I decided to do some research into more weird couplings, here’s what I came up with for part 1 (more extensive research is needed later):

January Jones and Josh Groban: January Jones just seems kind of bitchy, right? And Josh Groban is such a goof. How did they ever get along? Also, January dated Ashton Kutcher too. She has, um, interesting taste in men. Sidenote: can she just tell us who her babydaddy is?

David Gallagher and Megan Fox: Megan dated Simon Camden! They dated in 2003, back when he was the more famous one because of 7th Heaven. 

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Julia Stiles: He’s just so smiley and she’s so glum. They met when they filmed one of the best teen movies of the 90s, 10 Things I Hate About You (RIP Heath).

Danielle Fishel and Lance Bass: Boy Meets World meets *NSYNC. Proof that celebs aren’t immune to the whole My Boyfriend Turned Out to Be Gay thing. Apparently they’re still friends.

Ryan Gosling and Sandra Bullock: Before he was in The Notebook and every Internet meme, he was that youngin dating Sandra Bullock. Please tell me they’re still friends.

When Old Women Date Young Men

To be fair, I decided to play devil’s advocate and add a sequel to my last post about old dudes who dated teenage girls. We can’t judge only the guys and not the gals. So I present to you, grown women who date younger men. It’s cougar time.

Demi Moore

Obviously I had to add Demi. She started dating Ashton Kutcher when she was 41 and he was 25. Basically if she was on 16 & Pregnant, she could have been Ashton’s mother. They got married in 2005. And hey, I’ll give them some props. They lasted a lot longer than most people expected – 6 years. And for a while there they were a big happy family with Demi’s 3 daughters: Rumer, Scout and Tallulah and ex-hubby Bruce Willis. Then Ashton cheated and got caught. Demi filed for divorce in November 2011. Ugh, men.

Sam Taylor-Wood

You might be thinking who? But this lady is a British director who’s engaged to actor Aaron Johnson. You might know Aaron from films like Kick-Ass, Albert Noobs, and he’s going to be in a movie with Taylor Kitsch, Savages. She’s 45 and he’s 21. It’s crazy. They met on the set of Nowhere Boy, where Aaron played John Lennon and she directed. Let’s talk about how he’s 7 years older than her 15-year-old daughter. Oh and did I mention that they already have two daughters together? Yup, one was born in 2010 and the other was born earlier year. He claims he’s an old soul and she’s a young soul. Okay…

Jennifer Lopez

J.Lo’s been making headlines lately because she’s dating dancer Casper Smart (Cris Judd 2.0?) She’s 42 and he’s 25. In fact, he just turned 25 and sugar mama J.Lo got him a Dodge Ram truck for his birthday (what, no Escalade?). Even her longtime manager Benny Medina called her out on the cougar shenanigans. Is this dude going to be hubby no. 4?

Susan Sarandon

I love Susan Sarandon. She knows how to work it and she’s pretty betchy. But I really think she was one of the first Hollywood ladies to get on the train to Cougartown. She started dating Tim Robbins back in 1988. She was 42 and he was 30. They were together for about 21 years until they broke up in 2009. Now, I gotta say I was pretty shocked when they broke up. I thought they were going strong like Goldie and Kurt or Rita and Tom. Now Susan is free to be Hollywood’s most eligible cougar. And don’t worry, the phrase doesn’t offend her. She’s said she loves being called that!

Selena Gomez

I know what you’re thinking, “Uhhh Selena Gomez is still a teenager.” But hey, she’s almost 20 and Justin Bieber just turned 18. Even a one year age difference when you’re a teenager is a big deal. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t have been able to date a 17 year old when I was 19. That would have just been ew. Plus, he wasn’t even legal when they started dating!

Delta Goodrem

Delta, who’s an Australian popstar, dated Nick Jonas for about 9 months. She was 26, he was 18. I guess that purity ring is long gone.

When Old Dudes Date Teenagers

Would you date this guy?

It’s creepy right? Well, it not only happens in real life but it also happens in the celeb world. There have been plenty of 20-something guys who have dated teen actresses. And for some reason, this skeeves me out even more. Now, I know that being a child actor makes you more mature or older than you really are (i.e. Drew Barrymore’s drug-filled childhood), but I thought Hollywood was supposed to be all about image. So how does dating a teenager when you’re in your late 20s work out in your favor? It’s weird and makes me uncomfortable. Stop that right now. Let’s take a look at some celebs who have been guilty of this:

Wilmer Valderrama

Ugh. Wilmer Valderrama. I don’t understand him. He’s basically been dating 17-year-old actresses since 2001, when he first dated Mandy Moore when she was 17 and he was 21. Okay, that’s not a big difference. But he did it again when he dated Lindsay Lohan when she was also 17 and he was 24. I thought he was past his underage tendencies, but then he started dating Demi Lovato last year. Yes, Demi Lovato, the Disney Channel star. She was 19 and he was 31 at the time. Like, what? Apparently he hooked up with Minka Kelly recently, so maybe he’s moving on to older women.

Paul Walker

First of all, wow, Paul Walker, where the eff have you been? He used to be a big heartthrob back in the early 2000s and he had a lot going for him. What happened there? I know he was in Fast Five in 2011, but it was another Fast & Furious movie – isn’t he tired of those movies yet, I know we are. Secondly, he started dating his fiancee when she was 16 and he was 32. I have no words.

Chad Michael Murray

I used to like Chad Michael Murray when he played Tristan on Gilmore Girls. Now he just bothers me. Basically he got caught up in the Hilary Duff vs. Lindsay Lohan feud. He played their love interest in a movie with each of them  (A Cinderella Story with Hilary, Freaky Friday with Lindsay. He was rumored to be dating both of them, but not at the same time — don’t worry, no Aaron Carter situation. Hilary was 16, Lindsay was 17 and Chad was 23. The girls were probably just trying to one-up each other. I mean, Hilary did show up to the Freaky Friday premiere with Chad — that’s ballsy, girl. Anyways, what really angers me is that Chad was married to his One Tree Hill co-star, Sophia Bush for a hot second (5 months) and then before his divorce was even finalized, he started dating Kenzie Dalton, who was an extra on One Tree Hill and a runner-up in a teen pageant. She was 17 and he was 24. They’ve been engaged for like 6 years now. I’m always Team Sophia.

Joel Madden

Before Nicole Richie, there was Hilary Duff. I do like Joel Madden, but I did think it was weird that he was dating Hilary Duff when she was 16 and he was 25. Her mom confirmed their relationship in Seventeen. Nothing like having your mother be your personal spokesperson for your dating life right?
